What's Up With The Japenese and Kiosks For Their Consoles?

I mean seriously.  I haven't seen, let alone played, one PS3 or Wii kiosk anywhere.  Well, that's not 100% true -- just today I spyed a PS3 kiosk at the local Wal-Mart Supercenter... but it was only showing videos.  Which is horrible compared to how Microsoft handled it last year.

Last year, after I got back from Washington DC, I went to that same Wal-Mart and what did I find?  A working, playable, Xbox 360 kiosk.  Microsoft had playable games over a full month before the console launched.  And now with these Japanese companies, we're just beginning to see stations (most aren't even playable).  I guess my question is: why?  Is it a way of them "sticking it" to us Americans?  Or is it just customary?

Not that any game I've seen from Sony or Nintendo could currently pull me away from Gears of War (maybe Resistance: Fall of Man, for a second).

I don't know, Resistance is supposed to be really amazing. I don't even know if I can resist Resistance. Oh wait...there's $660 between it and me; I think I can handle just having Gears a little longer now.

Getting back on topic...

It's funny how horribly the whole situation is being handled. The 360 really didn't have much hype around it, and it did very well (kiosk and all). I think all of the "hype" built up around the Wii and the PS3 is desroying both consoles.

People will expect Wii games to look like Gears, and play like something entirely new (you can see where this is going). They'll only be getting half the package this time around.

Meanwhile, people will expect PS3 games to look like Gears, and play like something entirely new. That is mostly true. But the fact that the "good" version of the system costs $200 more than the "good" Xbox 360, will turn most people way (excepting those all ready standing in line for one).

Gamers know how badly Sony has hurt themselves this time, it's all in the hands of the newcomers at this point. Whether it becomes a DreamCast or an NES, is all up to them.

for the price of the PS3, I'll just stick with a computer thank you, better graphics, you can do more with it, and it has games that are just as good if not better and don't cost over 50$.

X-box 360 i'll probably get, but i'm gonna wait until the spring when the price hopefully drops a bit on it (although I think that it won't drop until a year after Halo 3 is released, so MS can make every last dime off it).
