89-92 was 3.0L DOHC V6 w/ 5 Speed Manual 93-95 was 3.0L DOHC V6 w/ 5 Speed Manual OR 3.2L DOHC V6 w/ 4 Speed Automatic 96-99 was 3.4L DOHC V8 w/ 4 Speed Automatic only also the 96-05 Taurus came with an optional 3.0L DOHC V6 which made 20 less HP and was mated with the same Tranny as the V8 SHO, it's completely different from the 3.0/3.2 SHO but is based on the same (just a bored out version) 2.5L DOHC V6 that the SHO is based on. There is also the 3.8L OHV V6 which came on the 88-95 LX versions, with 4 speed auto only, and made 140hp. Some people confuse this as being the SHO though, since the Police package made 155hp, but the 5 speed SHO will walk circles around it all day long, as will the 4 speed auto. (amazingly the 5 speed 3.0 SHO is WAAAYYYY faster than either the 3.2L or 3.4L SHO's - 400 pounds lighter than the 3.2L and 200 pounds lighter than the 3.4L - plus being 5 speed that helps out alot)
tiny V8, based on the Ford/Porsche 2.5L DOHC V6 which made 250hp when porsche used it (170 when ford used it and later 205) - the original V8 that Yamaha gave to ford made 305hp, Ford fixed that and dropped it to 235, AX4N FWD Transmission couldnt handle more than 200hp without blowing up every 100k miles (and they do) :(
