New members (such as myself) sometimes want a way to edge themselves into a forum community before going off and diving into other threads on a board. Usually, Intro or 'Newbie' topics are a good way for new members to introduce themselves and for them to suss out who the regulars are (i.e., the ones who are more than happy to say "Hi, nice to have you with us!"). It's also a good way for the admins to get an idea of what person they might be dealing with (heres a tip - bad grammer, hardly anything said? They won't stay for long).
Anyway, point is, Introduction topics might be worth looking into. Very newbie friendly.
That would be better left for the 'Lounge' area. We more than welcome posts like you suggested, but we actually have to get members before that happens too often.
I'll leave the final decision to CK and Major Silva, but I gladly provided my two cents.
Oh, welcome to the site. Hope you enjoy it.

Well, I'm glad I'm getting (somewhat) consideration into this. Lets me know you're listening (sort of). Anywho, I'll wait for further development and continue on my Halo fan-fic. And seeing as this place is lacking a healthy pack of active users (in a way) I'll begin a recruiting drive.
Maybe we should make commercials. Nah - all we'd have to pay for them with is Saint. Saint and his..."talents." Seriously though, we could use quite a few new characters around this place, so thanks for the recruiting.
Good luck on your fan-fic as well. Oh the Fan Submissions section, a neglected sibling it is. It shan't remain that way for long...hopefully.
The more you know...

I'm back! And I see that there's been no more input on the prospect of a Newbie Topic.
I am greatly saddened by this turn of events.
(Edit: I've just noticed the newbie section in the Off-topic forum, so ignore what I said. You've made me a happy man, Major.)
Still, I'll keep my promise and reel in more memebers. This place is still a barren wasteland compared to the likes of HBO, I'm sorry to say. Although, like I said, a Newbie Topic will help people ease in to the forum, rather than throwing them in the deep end, and you might attract more members by just having one.
(Oh yeah, fan-fic is still being worked out. It's hard trying to come up with a plot that no-one else has done!)
